Watching Anime Again

I took a long break from watching anime. One reason is because I have a policy of buying anime on DVD or bluray before I watch them. The first anime I picked up this year was Tiger and Bunny. The second one was Psycho-Pass. I admit-- I enjoyed watching them both very much. They made me reflect on how I want to live my life, but at the same time, they make me wonder what I've been doing with my life. Thank you to all who recommended these series to me.

I bought the Tiger and Bunny DVDs and the Psycho-Pass bluray box set. The Psycho-Pass bluray box set came with a two-disc CD soundtrack, two different types of card holders, a key chain, and a decal that looks like it's for vehicle windows. As for the extra bluray content, it's the usual textless openings and endings and such. I love the box set's physical extra merchandise, especially the soundtrack.

I get the feeling it will be awhile until I pick up another series. For now, I'll try my best to live a normal and average life while paying back student debt.

I am still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life though... Sometimes I wish I was assigned to a career I am comfortable with.

Oh hey, it's October already?!

Hello everyone!

It's October 4 and Nuit Blanche is tonight. I initially wanted to attend but I have work this evening and tomorrow morning. The smart and healthiest choice would be to skip Nuit Blanche and spend whatever time I have between today and tomorrow on sleep. From the looks of the Nuit Blanche 2014 website, there are many more interactive artworks this year. If you end up going to Nuit Blanche, please tell me how it goes. Even better if you have pictures.

I'm still in the middle of figuring out my life, so I spent September exploring a few jobs. On my free evenings, I checked out an anime recommended to me by a friend: Oregairu, also known as Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru or My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU.

Image from Right Stuf!

I thought it would be a typical romantic comedy, but it was more of an enjoyable anti-romcom romcom. Every moment where I thought it would follow a romantic comedy scenario, the main character finds a way to dodge it. It took me awhile to get into it because I'm used to typical romantic comedies. The anime is worth watching for its strategic methods to avoid typical romantic comedy scenarios and its subtle approach to show relationship developments. If you ever have the time, you should check it out.

In other news, there aren't as many posts on my blog these days because of job exploration. I'm learning more about myself and my abilities at different jobs--it's a good experience to power through while you're still young. I think I will be settled with what I want to do by next March.

DectoFeb

Back in December, I went to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica -Rebellion. It was part 3 of the movie series. I was excited about watching it, but after watching the movie, I was left astonished at the plot twists.

It was nice to get a movie freebie.

In January, I found an old McDonald toy. A handheld game featuring Shadow from Sonic the Hedgehog series. The toy still works too! I just need to figure out how to change its batteries.

In February, I melted chocolate and reshaped... tried to reshape it into a heart. It broke into pieces before I could eat it. It didn't taste very good. Will I try to melt it into a heart shape again? Certainly.

I wonder what may happen in March. *Checks my schedule.* Looks like there will be more to post this month. :)

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2

I went to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2 with the same crew as last week. It seems no matter how many times I re-watch sad moments in a movie, I tear up.

I emptied out half of the new tissue pack I had with me. Looking forward to Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 3 when it's out (hopefully in Cineplex theatres again).

Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1

A few hours ago, I had the opportunity to watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1 on the big screen. Being in a theater full of otaku was fun, except the part where some many people wouldn't stop talking during the movie. There was even one guy who I thought was recording the movie, but after I told him he shouldn't be recording it, he stated that he wasn't. I checked his phone screen--he wasn't recording but taking pictures instead. Really, man. Can you not take screenshots while watching the movie on your computer? I assure you, the quality of your pictures would be much better.

What was nice was not only all the feelings I had while watching the movie, but being able to meet with friends I haven't met in awhile and friends that I wasn't expecting to meet. I even have a message to one of you friends:

Dear bro from the Madoka movie,

I remember your face from YAMA, but I don't remember your name. You should have reminded me your name, because now all I have to call you by is "nurse-man." I'm not apologizing for calling you nurse-man, because the name sounds heroic to me and you being a male nurse is awesome and inspiring.

Respectfully,

Mun-Yeen

What was impressive about the Madoka theater showing is that Cineplex gave out free posters to the first few online ticket buyers AND the first 5 people in line for the movie. The man who received the first poster announced that he was in line for 2 hours before the movie. That's dedication there.

Kotoura-San

I recently picked up an anime to watch. Its name: Kotoura-San.

I first encountered Kotoura-San through my Facebook feed. The odd but cute video that I was linked to had me wanting to watch the anime. I didn't know what to expect when I started to watch the first episode. Before I even watched half of episode one, I was already crying.

By the end of the episode, I felt what these people felt:

Looks like I will be watching every episode of this series.

Here is the video that caught my interest:

Guess Who?

Remember that kind-of-like-a-board-game-but-not-really-a-board-game game where you are suppose to guess what character your opponent has by asking questions about their character's physical traits? If you do, you may remember it as Guess Who. There were other versions of the game with different names, but we'll stick with "Guess Who" for this post's purpose.

The front box of "Guess Who?"

One night, I had a dream where I was playing Guess Who, but the twist was that the people in the game were anime characters. It was tough to not ask my opponent about their character's job, personality, and breast size. When I woke up, I made a mental note to myself to modify a Guess Who game with anime characters in the near future. That note was forgotten until I saw my cousin's Guess Who game during winter break. I asked if I may borrow their game for a year, and now it is in my possession.

I was super excited about modifying the game, but I soon realized that there needed to be a criteria list for which characters to use. I couldn't just randomly select characters or else the game may not be as challenging as it should be. (Which now that I think of it, I should have added some traps.)

I decided to stick with characters that portray more realistic physical traits; no animal ears, no crazy hairstyle, has natural skin tones, and looks 99% like a human. The Guess Who anime cats version and other versions can come later.

And so, the results of 5 hours of searching for pictures on the Internet, resizing images, cropping, printing, and cutting paper were:

Ta dah! I asked friends on Facebook to provide me with 5 of their favourite characters and added some of them in. It took more time looking for good pictures than anything. It didn't surprise me how most of the good and useable pictures were on wiki pages.

An extra rule to this version of the game is: you may not ask your opponent questions about their character's job, race, history, series or movie title, clothing, and personality. Only ask questions about your opponent's character's physical traits, excluding skin colour for courtesy.

Cool story: the game pieces are finished.
Bad news: it still need to be tested.

Hopefully, it will be fun to play.

Toronto Fan Expo 2012 Plans

I enjoyed Fan Expo on a Sunday so much last year that I decided to go to the convention on a Sunday again this year. Here's my "to-do" list for Fan Expo 2012:
    1. - Play FE BINGO
      - Take Pokémon Snap Pictures
      - That pose

  • Fan Expo Canada's Facebook page posted a "what to expect at Fan Expo" BINGO card on their wall, which I really want to play with. Hopefully I'll get Bingo. :P I also need more Pokémon snap points. May as well get them at Fan Expo.

I haven't decided what common pose I'd like to share with you and the people at the convention yet. I guess it will have to be a surprise.

    Summer Wars

I like to rewatch my anime DVDs and recently I watched the movie "Summer Wars" again. The movie's like a more slice of life version of Digimon (according to a few friends of mine), but nontheless, it has beautiful graphics, a superb storyline, and loveable characters. I'm especially fond of Granny Saeke.

    She can be kind...

    yet strict.

I cried the first and second time I watched Summer Wars. I'm a big cry baby, which is why I try not to watch shows and movies too often. They leave a big impact on me and I always end up thinking about them too often (I'm still trying to get over Madoka Magica and the Korean movie "Daisy"'s endings).

What were bonuses in the movie were the many real world issues implemented in the story, such as artificial intelligence, the loss of close family bonds some children experience, and people's dependance on the Internet. It makes me think about my everyday actions and the people who I never speak to on the bus. What kind of life did they grow up with? How much do they depend on the Internet? And how would a super a.i. hacking virus affect their everyday lives?

    Stuff like that.

I am tired. Need sleep, now. Turns out I'm going bald from all the work I do at school. I already have dark circles under my eyes. Anyways, until next time!

    Mr. Raindrop

Have you ever listened to the song "Mr. Raindrop" by amplified? The song was used as an ending for an anime called Gintama. Two of the members of amplified played another version of the song in May this year and uploaded it to YouTube.

    Gintama's second ending:

    Tiger and Bunny

Tiger and Bunny: a new anime about super heroes that compete in a popularity contest as they fight crime in the city. I first found out about Tiger and Bunny through people's artwork on Deviant Art. The casual outfits of Tiger and Barnaby are what caught my interest. They're jazzy! I want a nice hat and vest like Tiger and Barnaby's jacket is hot (not to mention his hair). Their hero suits look cool too. Heck, all the heroes' suits look good!

I've watched three episodes of the anime so far. I'll watch the other episodes after the DVD is released in Canada (if it ever gets released). It took me awhile to get used to the thought of a hero competition in the anime; I found it ridiculous in the beginning. I accepted the concept by the second or third episode only because Barnaby's hair is gorgeous, Tiger's strong sense of heroism, Blue Rose' Pepsi NEX ad, Fire Emblem, and Origami Cyclone's appearances. ... I'm also curious about the storyline.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Genderbend

I was searching for information on Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (PSG) original soundtracks and found genderbend pictures of the characters. I thought to myself: "Argh! Why didn't I think of it sooner?!" There are genderbending fanart I really enjoy, such as the genderbending of the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya characters. Of course there would be PSG fans out there that would draw genderbend pictures of it! PSG has a powerpuff girls-like art style, so I was looking forward to find PSG genderbend art. Fanart drawn in the beautiful art style that randomly appears from time to time in the anime was something to look forward to too.

After surfing from website to website, I am happy with what I found. I must admit though, I only saved a few of the ones I saw. Within this post are most of the images I saved. I made sure to link the images to their source. (Click the images to go to them. There are so many more images to find!)

I was hoping there were genderbend versions of Garterbelt and there were!

I was expecting Garterbelt to look funny in genderbend form, but he looks sort of normal as a woman. Oh well. :)

Panty and Stocking would take awhile to get their weapons in genderbend form. I guess genderbend wouldn't work out with them in battle.

    Galactic Pretty Boys

So... Mechs and galactic pretty magical boys. I think I will have to check out Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto sometime soon. After Hunter x Hunter, that is. I feel I can learn a lot about galactic pretty boys and magical boys by watching this show. Maybe.

Has anyone watched this anime yet? Does it have a good story line to it?

    Ouran HSHC

Ouran High School Host Club is so good it's bad.

I can't seem to stop rewatching the english dubbed episodes I bought last month. I've watched the episodes with Casanoda enough to worry about the DVD being scratched! I mean-- the idea of a lovely item on a mean-looking person is genius! The thought of it makes me think that it would work 100% on any person that puts fear into the hearts of others when looked into the eyes. It's so good.~ I can't stop watching it.~ That's bad.~ (>_<')

Fairy Tail chapter 174 (possible spoilers)

The latest Fairy Tail chapter amuses me. Natsu's alternate self made me think that he's the super cool one with Natsu being the less cool one, but the chapter totally turns my thoughts around. Why does almost everyone in Fairy Tail's alternate guild seem so cowardly? Maybe it's because Erza's not on their side? ... I'll have to wait for the next chapters. Hiro Mashima, I love your work!

Alternate Natsu can look cool and pathetically adorable. Is there a word for a personality like that?

I wonder how my alternate self would be like. Hm. She might actually be attractive, have a sense in fashion, have a strong sense of justice, and works hard for money.

    Brave Story

I think the reason why I like to watch Brave Story and the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is because I want my life to be like the main character's. Forever fulfilling their goals, doing things people normally wouldn't do in real life, and having the courage to make a happy ending for themselves.
It wasn't thanks to anime that I like blond hair. No wait-- I think it's totally anime's fault. I thought this one guy from Brave Story looked pretty, and I'm a sucker for pretty looking boys. There was this one scene where the blond character was smiling and blinking his eyes while wearing a magician's cloak. I kept watching him rather than the other main character. I feel weird when I think about how much I've stared at him.

And now for some picture feed:

Notice how many pictures there are of the blond girl-looking boy. Notice how evil yet cool he looks. I've wanted to be a character like that since I was a kid.

I've been trying to figure out why the DVD of Brave Story pauses at the middle and skips to the end. I finally figured out that the data wasn't burned into the DVD when I played it on my laptop.
