Guess what I found in my note pages? Jackets! I want to make jackets like those, especially the shorter one. I don't know what material to use though. Cotton, fleece, polyester, or a mixed material? I wanted to make the jacket warming enough for winters and cool enough for summers. I used to have a jacket capable of such a thing, but it disappeared. I wonder how much the material would cost. Hm. I think I should start with the pattern and measurements first.

I applied for summer school and I'm looking for a part-time job. I just hope I can find a job that doesn't have to do with handling food. I get allergies easily from scents and I don't want to spend money on tissue paper any more.

Anime North 2009

I got to Anime North on Saturday at 6 pm, but didn't get to meet with my usual convention friends because some of us weren't there. *sobs*

There were many splendid cosplays. I want to share the images I took and I like the most. Some of them aren't related directly to an anime, but are indirectly related to anime culture thanks to the internet. I don't follow the internet culture as well as others do. Even though I have no idea what the people are cosplaying, I take pictures of whatever I find interesting.

The first image I want to share is that of Nintendo's Princess Daisy, Princess Peach, and Luigi. I think these three were in a group. The Luigi cosplayer wouldn't get into the picture, so I moved the camera to get him in it. I like this image.

Next up are these two girls dressed in black and white. Their clothing look like things you could wear casually, but their outfits have a bit of a cosplay style touch to it. I find that the lighting from the window they're standing next to makes the picture look so much better. I don't know what they're dressed as though.

Then there are the Motivationals. Even though they're wearing casual clothing, the frame they hold makes it into cosplay. I'm not sure what the background to their cosplay is, but it's interesting, no?

I spent most of my time in the dealers room looking for manga that I only got to take around 55 pictures of different cosplayers. I didn't get to take many clips of people doing things other than walking, or proceed with my activity because I felt pressured into someone else's schedule. I thought I got enough clips for a video in the end, but it was a downer when I finished it:

Okay, I know this is from a video game or two, because I remember seeing them in Nintendo Power a long time ago. I just don't know the name of it. If anyone out there knows, please comment. I needed to make this image larger to get a good view of some of the costumes' neat details. The colours were enough to wow me, but then again, a lot of people's costumes with or without colours were impressive.

Guess who this is? It's Dharshi! She added purple feathers to her costume to give it a stereotypic pimping style with the sword bring the cane. It looks different from when she was at Anime North 2007.

Conclusion: Anime North 2009 was like Anime North 2007 except the mask wasn't the thing that made things boring. It's because I didn't get to hang out with the usual crew.

Capturing Images

What I find awesome is furniture that are left outdoors. I found chairs in a desolated place along with two artworks one day. The air after the rain smelled nice too. I walked about some more and found a picnic table in a quiet and isolated area.

I was heading home today, and saw a fire hydrant. I took a picture of it and the slightly modified version of it from photoshop looks like this:

A happy hydrant for all!

Nasturtium Dwarf Jewel

My teacher gave our class a seed (Nasturtium Dwarf Jewel) and an alien looking root thing (Jerysalem Artichoke). The Jerysalem Artichoke dried up before I could plant it, but I planted the Dwarf Jewel seed in my backyard. I'm looking forward to its growth, because its leaves are edible. I forgot to take a picture of the seed being planted.

Shop Spot: Animate Cos Room

[Note: Animate Cos Room closed late fall 2009.]

A13, Splendid China Tower, 4675 Steeles Ave. East, Scarborough, Ontario

Opened Hours:
... I forgot to check.

Animate Cos Room was the first japanese and cosplay fashion centered store I've seen around Toronto. They sell a variety of lolita and cosplay outfits. You're allowed to try on te outfits before buying them. Last time I checked they had a discount system where after you buy 4 items (may be only count with clothing), you get 20% off the next item you buy. If anyone knows the specifics, please comment.

Conclusion: Animate Cos Room is a shiny shop.

Layouts from the Past

I used to have a Yahoo! free geocities account. Okay, at the moment I still have the account, but once it shuts down at the end of this year or the beginning of the next, I won't. What I loved the most about my website phase was that I learned how to read HTML, CSS, and a bit of javascript coding. It was fun playing around with layout designs and learning how to use photoshop to create images for the website was pretty cool.

Things to do at an Anime Convention (part 1)

  1. take a picture of 100 or more different cosplayers

  2. capture people doing random actions and poses

  3. carry a white board around and asking cosplayers to draw themselves

  4. ask people "what convention are you at right now?"

  5. capture 2 groups of cosplayers from 2 anime to pretend battle

  6. make a pose/action, and 5 other cosplayers have to do the same pose/action

Which convention will I be attending? Mm... I don't know. We'll just have to see how things work out.

Squirrels could take over the World 2

Yes. We are back to the topic of squirrels. I like watching squirrels do whatever they're doing, because I find them fascinating.

I was exiting a building today and noticed a black squirrel's head bobbing in and out of a garbage bin. I was hoping it would leave the bin with something like the last squirrel (maybe it's the same one) did with a quarter of a doughnut. It keft without any items in sight. Maybe the squirrel had something in its mouth and I couldn't see it. Maybe it already ate whatever it was looking for in the trash.

I turned around and saw a grey squirrel running from tree to tree. It looked like it was looking for something under the trees. So. Cool. Sometimes I wonder how my life would be if I was a squirrel. Hm. I wonder if squirrels wonder how their life would be like if they were humans.
